Frequently asked questions.

Everything owners, architects and developers ask us before starting a project. Still have a question? Call our team directly.

Getting started

How do I get a quote for my project?

Tell us about your project through the Discuss My Project form or call 561-318-3729. Our in-house project management team responds to every new-project inquiry within one business day to set up an initial conversation.

What information should I have ready?

Anything you have helps, the property address, a rough sketch or inspiration board, a target budget range, and your desired timing. If you do not have those yet, a first conversation is still the right place to start.

Do you work with my architect or designer?

Absolutely. We coordinate directly with your architect and interior designer, and we can recommend trusted design partners if you do not have one yet.

When should I involve a builder, before or after architectural plans?

Earlier is better. Bringing Avalon in during design lets us give real-world budget feedback, constructability input and site guidance before the drawings are finalized, which avoids expensive redesigns and keeps the project aligned with your budget from the start. We are glad to join after plans are complete too.

Can Avalon assist with preconstruction and budgeting?

Yes. Preconstruction is one of the most valuable things we do, budgeting, value engineering, permitting strategy, scheduling and trade coordination, so you head into construction with a realistic budget and a clear plan rather than surprises.

Licensing, insurance & trust

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Avalon Builders is a licensed Florida residential contractor (license CRC1333312) and carries full general-liability and workers-compensation insurance. Documentation is provided with every proposal.

Can I verify your license?

Yes, our Florida license number is CRC1333312 and can be verified through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). We are happy to walk you through it.

Who actually manages my project day to day?

Dedicated in-house project managers run your project from preconstruction through completion, overseeing planning, coordination, budgeting, scheduling and field execution. You always know who is accountable for your build.

Do you use subcontractors, and are they vetted?

We coordinate and supervise a vetted network of trade partners selected for workmanship, reliability and fit for the project, not subbed out to unknown crews.

Pricing & estimates

How do you price a project?

Each estimate is built from your actual scope, drawings, selections and site conditions, rather than a generic per-square-foot figure. We lay out scope, allowances and exclusions clearly so you understand exactly what is included.

What affects the cost of building a custom home in Palm Beach County?

The biggest drivers are lot and site conditions (elevation, soil, waterfront and flood requirements), square footage and ceiling heights, the level of finish and custom millwork, structural and hurricane-code requirements, and permitting. We break these down during preconstruction so you can make informed decisions before construction starts.

How are allowances, selections and change orders handled?

Allowances are budgeted amounts for selections not yet finalized (tile, fixtures, appliances), called out clearly up front. We help you lock selections on a schedule that keeps the job moving, and any change to the agreed scope is documented in writing, with cost and schedule impact, and approved by you before work proceeds. Nothing changes on your invoice without your sign-off.

Do you require a deposit?

Projects follow a milestone-based payment schedule laid out in your contract, typically beginning with a deposit to secure the start. The full schedule is transparent and agreed before any work begins.

Process, timeline & communication

What does Avalon’s construction process look like?

Four phases: Discovery (understand the project), Proposal (written scope, schedule and transparent budget), Build (a dedicated in-house project manager on site with regular progress updates, scheduled site walkthroughs and documented change orders), and Handover (full walkthrough, punch list closed and warranty package delivered).

How long will my project take?

Timelines depend on scope, permitting and finish selections. Every proposal includes a realistic schedule with milestones, and we keep it updated as the project progresses rather than quoting a number we cannot stand behind.

How will you keep me updated during the build?

You get regular progress updates, scheduled site walkthroughs and documented change orders, and direct access to the in-house project manager running your project, not a phone tree.

Can Avalon manage a project for an owner who lives out of state?

Yes, many of our clients are out-of-state or seasonal owners. Your in-house project manager acts as your eyes on site, with regular progress updates, photo documentation and scheduled video or in-person walkthroughs so you stay fully informed from anywhere.

Do you handle permitting and inspections?

Yes. We manage permitting, inspections and hurricane-code details in-house so the process stays coordinated and on schedule.

Service area & project types

What areas of Florida do you serve?

Our primary market is Palm Beach County and South Florida, Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Wellington, Delray Beach, Boca Raton and Boynton Beach, from our West Palm Beach headquarters. Through our Ormond Beach office we also serve Volusia and Flagler Counties, including Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach and Palm Coast. Not sure if you are in range? Call 561-318-3729.

Does Avalon build waterfront homes?

Yes. Waterfront and coastal construction is core to our work in Palm Beach County, including the elevation, drainage, hurricane-code detailing and corrosion-resistant assemblies that waterfront sites demand.

What types of projects do you take on?

Custom home construction, whole-home and room-by-room renovations, additions and guest houses, and select commercial projects.

Do you take smaller renovations, or only whole-home projects?

Both. Our sweet spot is full-gut renovations and ground-up custom homes, but we regularly take on kitchen renovations, primary-suite refits and additions when we can commit to doing them right.

Do you offer a warranty after completion?

Yes. Every project closes with a warranty package. Questions after move-in still reach us directly at estimating@avalonbuildersflorida.com.

Still have a question?

Talk to our in-house project management team, no phone tree, no gatekeepers.
